IFC Hosts First Sexual Assault Accreditation of the Year

"The Inter Fraternity Council (IFC) hosted a forum on masculinity and sexual assault for Greek fraternity members in Campbell Hall Monday evening.

IFC Vice President of Communications and third-year political science major Austin Hechler and Liaison to the Public Safety Commission and third-year history of public policy major Ashcon Minoiefar organized the “accreditation” meeting. Greek chapters’ members are required to meet a quarterly minimum of three accreditation meetings. Forum keynote speaker and fourth-year economics and sociology double major Siavash Zohoori spoke about how society’s expectations of masculinity can be harmful to men by making them feel entitled to women’s bodies which can lead to sexual assault. Attendees were able to publically share their opinions and experiences afterwards in a mediated safe space."

SigEp Donates $15,000 to the JDRF

Last week UCSB's Sigma Phi Epsilon donated $15,000 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. This money was accumulated from their week long philanthropy in the Spring, which was supported by the entire Greek community, Associated Students, and IFC. We are extremely proud of these gentlemen for making a significant difference in our community to fight type one diabetes.

Greek Park Renovation

This Summer IFC has been working hard to renovate Greek Park in Isla Vista. Once a staple in the community, Greek Park's facilities have deteriorated over the years. Seeing this as a problem the IFC Executive Board decided to take action and work with Isla VIsta's Parks and Recreation Board to come up with designs for a new basketball and volleyball court. We hope that with the communities support we can move forward with this project and give Isla Vista a park it deserves!
